Local Culture

While we're all proud of our barbecue and the American Royal, there's much more to Kansas City than our “cowtown” nickname  implies. Today, Kansas City culture includes diverse and numerous ethnic festivals and restaurants; devotion to professional sports teams in baseball, football, hockey, soccer, and tennis; NASCAR racing; musical and dance performances of all types; and an active theater community. The visual and performing arts draw a diverse and dedicated following; so do the Kansas City Chiefs. The Sprint Center and the Kansas City Power & Light District have spurred a revival downtown; Westport nightlife, Crown Center and the Country Club Plaza shopping district draw tourists and locals. Kansas City jazz and barbecue are recognized as the best in the world.

Kansas City has a vibrant international culture that incorporates the traditions, beliefs, foods, and celebrations of groups and natons from around the world, far beyond the confines of the American Mid-West.  From Westport to the Northland residents and visitors can find a wide range of restaurants, specialty shops, and other businesses that reflect the amazing cultural diversity that Kansas City is so well-known for.  Whatever one seeks to find from their home country of even a favorite vacation spot, whether traditional Brazilian cuisine or the aromatic sweetness of Middle-Eatern sweets, rest assured, it can be found in Kansas City.
